In this section Real World Radio aims to expose the murders of social activists and the cases of death threats against leaders. We will report on the wave of criminalization of the social protest. This new section of Real World Radio is also a memorial page for all those who were murdered in their struggle for a socially just world.

By Jubilee South Americas Six years have passed since our colleague and friend, Bety Cariño, was cowardly murdered by Mexican paramilitary officers on April 27, 2010. While traveling in a humanitarian convoy to San Juan Copala, she and other members of the delegation were brutally attacked. Activist and human rights defender Jyri Jaakkola, from Finland, was also murdered in this attack. Read more

This was the title of an activity organized by the Europe – Third World Center (CETIM), Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) and the Transnational Institute (TNI), members of the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power and End Impunity, carried out in parallel to a new session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland and the open-ended intergovernmental working group in charge of elaborating guidelines for a binding treaty on human rights and transnational corporations. The situation in Honduras is of complete alert. The outrageous and still unpunished murder of Berta Cáceres seems to have intensified the violence and persecution against social activists, indigenous people and peasants in a country whose people continues to be under attack since the Coup d´Etat of 2009. Yesterday, after a violent eviction in Rio Chiquito municipality, Cortés department, the member of the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) Nelson García was shot and murdered when returning to the place where he was staying. March 17, 2016 Representatives of social networks from different regions of the world will travel to Honduras today as part of the International Mission “Justice for Berta Cáceres”. The mission is organised by the Honduran organisation Consejo Cívico de Organizaciones Populares e Indígenas de Honduras (COPINH) - from the National Network of Human Rights defenders in Honduras - and individuals, collectives and organisations making up an international network of solidarity with the people of Honduras. The mission demands an impartial investigation of the brutal assassination of the indigenous Lenca leader Berta Cáceres, on the 3rd of March. Read more
