In this section Real World Radio aims to expose the murders of social activists and the cases of death threats against leaders. We will report on the wave of criminalization of the social protest. Peruvian president Ollanta Humala declared a state of emergency in Hualgayoc province (as well as in Cajamarca and Celendin) Cajamarca department on July 4th. The government's move was taken after there were demonstrations against Conga mining project in those areas of Cajamarca department, which ended with police repression where several civilians were killed. Five people were murdered in Celendin province, Cajamarca department, Peru, in the past days for demonstrating against the Conga mining project. Three of them were killed on July 3rd, when the police repressed a mobilization against the project. The other two people died in the following days as a result of the injuries suffered during the confrontation. Watch video
