Monsanto suffers judicial setback in lawsuit over royalties in Argentina

US seed company Monsanto failed to ban the commercialization of Argentinean soy flour in Europe.

On Tuesday July 6, the European Court of Justice overruled the request made by the transnational corporation, which puts an end to a long legal dispute over a millionaire business for the payment of royalties.

EFE news agency reported that the Luxembourg-based court understood that Monsanto’s invention of soy flour is in “residual state”, obtained from several “transformation operations”.

Fortunately, Monsanto has not had favorable rulings in the latest international court cases it has had to face. In March, a Paraguayan judge of Children and Adolescents overruled an amparo appeal filed promoted by the corporation, which aimed to obtain an environmental license for the experimentation with GM maize.

The position of the Secretary of Environment to carry out a public hearing before granting the license to experiment with GMOs, was therefore ratified

But the most controversial incursion of the US seed corporation in the recent years has taken place in Haiti. With the facade of purported humanitarian health for the earthquake victims, Monsanto donated 475 tons of GM seeds with the purpose of generating a dependence on these seeds by the local farmers.
