The control of water sources is the main reason why Israel has been building an apartheid wall in the West Bank, Palestine, since 2002. It is violating the border ("Green Line") that separates the Jewish state from the Palestinian Territories occupied by the Israeli settlers. So says hydrologist Dr. Abed al-Rahman Tamimi, of the Palestinian Hidrology Group, member of PENGON - Friends of the Earth Palestine.
The water available in the West Bank comes from three main sources: the Western, the Eastern and the Northwestern aquifers. Israel has absolute control of water extraction from these sources, which it uses mainly for agriculture. Less than 15% of the water goes to Palestinians, the rest is used by Israelis.
