Green Economy or Global Plunder?

Costa Rica: Discussion about climate crisis, technological threats and methods of resistance

An international seminar on the climate crisis began on Monday 19 September in San Jose, Costa Rica. The event is organized by the Coordination Network on Biodiversity, The Erosion, Technology and Concentration Action Group (ETC Group), and international organization GRAIN.

The meeting, to end on Wednesday 21, is being held in the School of Agro-Food Sciences of the University of Costa Rica.

According to the organizers, the event will also be a space for the indigenous, peasants, environmental organizations and academics from Meso America to meet and exchange experiences.

The aim of the meeting is to carry out an in-depth analysis of the threats implied by the false solutions to climate change, carbon markets, geo-engineering, synthetic biology, new global environmental “governance” and the proposal of a “green economy” put forward by bankers and business people.

Despite the warnings by the international organizations, there are several projects that are being implemented by corporations and governments under the guise of “green economy”. These have also been key issues in the United Nations climate conferences.

At the same time, there will be spaces for construction and reflection on the importance of community practices, peasant seeds, self-governance and other forms of resistance.

Real World Radio will cover this special event.
