Aldolfo Pérez Esquivel at the Conference of the Peasant and Indigenous Movement in Plaza de Mayo

Perez Esquivel was present in Plaza de Mayo, the place chosen by the peasant organizations to close their first conference.

“When organizations meet with each other, there is always a true voice, the voice of the organizations themselves and their relationship with the Pachamama”, said the Argentinean Nobel Peace Prize Adolfo Perez Esquivel, from the Service for Peace and Justice of Argentina, with reference to the mobilization of the National Peasant and Indigenous Movement in Plaza de Mayo, on Tuesday 14th.

“These social movements are completely political, but let´s not mix this with political parties. If social movements do not recover their sense, the situation in Latin America will not be solved”, said Perez Esquivel.

The human rights activist said: “big corporations cannot ensure the food sovereignty of the peoples”; this is the exclusive task of peasants.

He also said: “there is a monoculture of soy, but also a monoculture of the mind”, “If you visit the surroundings of Buenos Aires, the poverty belts, who are living there? Peasants, who were displaced from their lands. This is why we have to fight against land foreignization, but for this, peasants who want to stay in the countryside or want to return must be supported”.
