Seminario Regional “Agrotóxicos en el Cono Sur” - “El Derecho Humano al Agua y el Derecho a la Salud amenazados”

La actual expansión agrícola que prioriza un retorno rápido de renta sobre el capital invertido, se ha caracterizado por la aplicación de forma homogénea de paquetes tecnológicos que afectan la sustentabilidad de los territorios, la calidad del agua y la salud de las poblaciones locales. En Uruguay las pequeñas comunidades rurales vienen sufriendo desde hace varios años los impactos de los agrotóxicos en su salud, y hoy, vecinos de varias localidades denuncian que los venenos usados en los agronegocios están afectando sus fuentes de agua. Conscientes de la necesidad de intercambiar información y experiencias sobre cómo enfrentar esta problemática, la central obrera PIT - CNT, la Confederación de Obreros y Funcionarios del Estado (COFE), REDES - Amigos de la Tierra Uruguay, la Comisión Nacional en Defensa del Agua y la Vida y el Programa Uruguay Sustentable organizan el Seminario Regional “Agrotóxicos en el Cono Sur” - “El Derecho Humano al Agua y el Derecho a la Salud amenazados”, a realizarse este 17 de julio de 9 a 18 hs. en la sede del PIT – CNT (Jackson 1283, Montevideo). Radio Mundo Real transmitirá en vivo la actividad y realizará una cobertura especial de la misma.

    Neither the local government of Cordoba province nor the Argentinean government have responded to the serious health situation of the neighborhood Ituzaingo Anexo, which for many years has been victim of agrotoxic spraying in the neighboring soya plantations, as exposed by the group Mothers of Barrio Ituzaingo Anexo. The growing cases of cancer, especially leukaemia, malformations, miscarriages are some of the consequences of the fumigations, according to the group. Read more
