From November 30 to December 11 in Paris, the French capital, the UN Climate Change COP 21 will take place. There, negotiators from over 190 countries will try to reach a new global agreement to address climate change. At the same time, and perhaps more strongly than ever in the history of COPs, a French coalition of organizations and social movements, and most diverse groups from many parts of the world, will carry out various activities, protests, marches, and other actions to make the solutions and voices of the people heard.Thousands of activists are expected to arrive in Paris from the most diverse countries in the world. Real World Radio will be there for a special coverage of the two-week UN negotiations and the mobilization of the peoples of the world to demand climate justice.

With the Pinocchio Climate Awards approaching, the heat is on to pick this year’s winner in each category of green washing, lobbying, and local impacts. Focusing on the latter, one company appears to be substantially destructive of lives and the climate. BNP Paribas has been nominated due to their involvement as one of the top international banks supporting the expansion of the coal sector by contributing to a whopping 15.6 billion euro to mining and coal-fired power plants. With the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference approaching, much focus has been set on the development on the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The GCF is a mechanism initiated by UN Convention on Climate Change to counter the impacts of climate change through mitigation and adaption in developing countries. To date, the Fund has raised USD $10.2 billion dollars, which is to be divided over the next four years to promote low-emission and climate-resilient development. Read more

This year’s Pinocchio Awards are set out to expose the corporations guiltiest of undermining climate action. Focusing on climate change and food sovereignty, one corporation particularly stands out. Yara, the Norwegian global leader in synthetic fertilisers made this year’s Pinocchio nominee under the category ‘greenwashing.’ According to Audrey Arjoune from Peuples Solidaires and ActionAid France, Yara has been chosen as a Pinocchio Award candidate due to their use of the Global Alliance for ‘climate-smart agriculture’ (GACSA) in an attempt to market their synthetic fertilisers as part of a (green) solution, rather than admitting that it is a major driver of climate change.
