The communties of the region known as Bajo Lempa in El Salvador, have been known for their actions to resist the effects of the current climate crisis.

They are self-organized, something which has enabled them to develop their own ’survival’ strategies to climate change in the long term, such as emergency alert systems, training rescue brigades, teaching CPR and communication through radio.

But they have also developed great political strength to take their demands to the governments. Sometimes they literally walk 120 kilometers to take their demands, as is the case of the Second Walk for Life from Bajo Lempa to the Presidential Palace, to submit outgoing president Antonio Saca a list of demands with measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

José Santos Guevara also spoke about the Second Meeting of Victims and People Affected by Climate Change, held last week in El Salvador.
