Military effectives with ski masks have surrounded the embassy, army aircrafts are flying over the country’s capital and the only vehicles seen in the streets are police patrols.

Tegucigalpa was desolated this morning, after the joy caused by Zelaya’s return to the country yesterday.

The repression began at 5.30 am.

There were tens of people injured and many arrested.

The effect of the tear gases was felt in several blocks around the Brazilian Embassy, and the communication lines were immediately interrupted.

Right now, members of the National Front of Resistance Against the Coup have fears over a possible attempt against the life of Zelaya, who returned to the country after almost three months of forced exile.

The former president of the National University of Honduras, Juan Almendares, said that this situation is a very painful step backwards.

“It is as if we were back on June 28th. The military want a civil war, and they are implementing a policy of wearing people out and psychological pressure”, said the leader of Madre Tierra/Friends of the Earth Honduras.

Almendares said the coup perpetrators are concentrating detained demonstrators in a football stadium, just like in the first week of the de facto government of Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.

Meanwhile, social activist Francisco Javier said the atmosphere of joy experienced last night as a result of the return of the constitutional President resulted in the decree of a curfew by the coup perpetrators in the afternoon, and to the order of repression at night.

“We can confirm there were over ten people injured and several arrested. All the area around the Brazilian Embassy is militarized”, he said.
