Dozens of people met on Monday, in Montevideo, Uruguay, outside the Honduran Consulate in Uruguay to demand justice for the murder of Lenca indigenous leader Berta Cáceres, which took place on Thursday in La Esperanza municipality, Intibucá department, Honduras. Watch video

Gustavo Castro Soto, coordinator of Otros Mundos Chiapas - Friends of the Earth Mexico, who was with Lenca leader Berta Caceres on Thursday early morning when she was murdered in Honduras "has not slept for two days, is tired and is transferred from one place to the other by the Honduran Prosecution Office to testify once and again. He is not feeling very well and this is being used by the authorities". The environmental activist was shot and wounded in the attack against Berta´s home in La Esperanza municipality, Intibucá department, but he managed to save his life. Read more

Thursday, March 3, 2016 - La Esperanza, Intibucá, Honduras Our friend, Berta Cáceres, founder and General Coordinator of the Council of Indigenous and Popular Organizations of Honduras, COPINH, and Gustavo Castro Soto, of Otros Mundos AC/ Friends of the Earth Mexico, the Mexican Network of People Affected by Mining (REMA) and the Meso American Movement against the Mining Extractive Model (M4) were attacked by gunmen, which caused Berta´s death and seriously injured Gustavo. The assault took place inside Berta's home. A group of armed men entered through the back door and shot both of our colleagues. Read more

The Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) denounced that employees of Desa company, in charge of the Agua Zarca hydroelectric project in San Francisco de Ojuera municipality (Santa Barbara department) and members of the Nacional Party harassed and illegally detained the participants of a peaceful march in defense of the Gualcarque River.
