Mobilizations on the second anniversary of the Coup d’Etat in Honduras violently repressed

The Coup regime in Honduras is consistent: it repressed the people in order to take power in June 28th, 2009; it kept these human rights violations during the following 24 months and ratified this repression yesterday by attacking demonstrators with tear gases on the second anniversary of the Coup.
This time, the Honduran people that went to Palmerola military base to demand the exit of US forces and an end to the militarization in Latin America had the worst part.
“We were on our way to the main entrance of the biggest US military base in the region when the police attacked us with tear gases”, said Bertha Cáceres, coordinator of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) to Prensa Latina.
Prensa Latina reported that during the protests that took place this June 28th, military and police officers violently repressed activists of the National Front of Popular Resistance, leaders of the resistance after the ousting of Manuel Zelaya.
The demonstrators that went to Palmerola blamed the US for its role during the coup process. Meanwhile, a caravan led by Zelaya arrived to San Pedro Sula where he highlighted the importance of a constituent assembly. Juan Barahona, General Vice-Coordinator of the Front denounced to Telesur that one of the main perpetrators of the Coup, Retired General Romeo Vasquez, is currently the Head of the national communications company Hondutel.
