Montevideo: European Union FTAs under discussion in parallel to EuroLat session

Real World Radio presents a photo gallery of the International Seminar “European Union FTAs under discussion” that took place on Monday at the official building of the Legislative Branch in Montevideo, Uruguay. The Seminar gathered progressive European and Latin American MPs, representatives of social movements and organizations of the region with the goal to analyze the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) of the European Union with MERCOSUR, Central American countries, Mexico and Andean countries.

The activity was organized by the European United Left / Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) of the European Parliament, PIT-CNT of Uruguay, the Progressive Sector of MERCOSUR Parliament, REDES – Friends of the Earth Uruguay, the “Continental Day for Democracy and Against Neoliberalism”, the Southern Cone Central Union Coordination and Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean (ATALC). It had the support of Friends of the Earth International, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation (FES), the Transnational Institute of the Netherlands (TNI) and the Heinrich Böll Foundation.

The Seminar was carried out in parallel to a Session of the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EuroLat) and in the context of the “Continental Day for Democracy and against Neoliberalism”, a process organized by social movements of the Americas which will be carried out on November 4.
In the afternoon, at one of EuroLat´s meetings, Brazilian activists Lucia Ortiz, of Friends of the Earth International and Tchenna Maso of the Movement of People Affected by Dams of Brazil (MAB) expressed their opposition to the coup government led by Michel Temer in their country.
