A Desperate Call

Ebola Wreacks Havoc in Liberia Amid Poor Reaction by International Community

Health centres to treat ebola are packed in Liberia. People infected with the disease are sent back to their homes, where they infect other family members. Cases of entire families dying are quite common. Hospitals are overstretched and some have close down, while outside people are dying with illnesses that can be treated like malaria or typhoid fever. The crisis is affecting the country while the international community has remained inactive.

Real World Radio interviewed the Sustainable Development Institute – Friends of the Earth Liberia to know more about the situation. Liberia is one of the West African countries worst affected by the ebola epidemic. The death toll so far and the number of people infected with ebola continues growing in Liberia.

Meanwhile, dozens of civil society organizations are working hard on the ground to try to avoid that more people get infected. The supply of desinfectant, soap and health care kits is essential.

A group of 44 non governmental organizations has just issued a press release calling the international community to take urgent action. Real World Radio spoke with Nora Bowier, coordinator of the Sustainable Development Institute/ FoE Liberia.
