How Seeds Were Privatized in Colombia: A Documentary by Victoria Solano

The documentary 970 tells the story of a group of Colombian peasants who had 70 tons of rice seized and destroyed by the government to defend the interests of transnational corporations under the Free Trade Agreement Colombia signed with the United States.

Resolution “9.70” shows the manipulation of genetically modified agriculture transnational corporations in this case of the Colombian government. This threatens biodiversity and food security. The documentary shows the growing invasion and abuses of smallholder farmers in many countries, with the complicity of the governments.

The easiest way to damage the peasants in any country is by imposing laws that prevent them from freely developing their activity to the benefit of foreign interests. This damages the agriculture patrimony and the local values. Peasants are left unprotected before the oppression and domination of ruthless transnational corporations.
