In this section Real World Radio aims to expose the murders of social activists and the cases of death threats against leaders. We will report on the wave of criminalization of the social protest. María Olmedo, her brother Luis, and Dolores Lopez are three of the 12 Paraguayan landless people who were arrested in a police operation on June 15, where nearly 50 peasants who were camping in “Marina Cue” plot were evicted, around 35 kilometers from Curuguaty, in Canindeyu department. Eleven landless peasants and six police officers were killed that day. Read more

Adalberto Castro is one of the Paraguayan peasants who has been in prison since the police operation that was carried out in Curuguaty on June 15th and which resulted in the death of eleven landless peasants and six police officers. It has been over four months since the town of Santa Cruz Barillas, Guatemala, was brutally repressed. In the incident, one community leader was killed, several people were injured, another eleven were arrested and arrest warrants were issued against over a hundred residents. Social organizations submitted evidence of irregularities in the legal proceedings and demand justice. Read more

Bribri indigenous leader Sergio Rojas, from Costa Rica, president of the Association for the Development of the Indigenous Territory of Salitre, located in Buenos Aires, Puntarenas Province, was attacked Monday night by strangers in Cebror community. His home is 5 km from the Marina Cue land where on June 15th, the police repression resulted in the murder of 11 landless peasants. Mariano lost one of his sons there, and the other two were injured and are in jail. Read more
