In Colombia, the campaign to find environmental engineer and activist Sandra Viviana Cuellar, who disappeared on February 17th on her way to Palmira, continue.
The campaign consists of letters to the authorities, posters in public spaces, cyber-actions and a tent to receive information about Sandra.
Last Wednesday, Real World Radio gathered 23 testimonies of the people participating in the march organized to give visibility to this case.
Javier, who joined Sandra in several of her environmentalist actions and in defense of the rights of communities said that last year 490 people disappeared in Cali, and so the campaign to find Sandra also serves to denounce the conditions in the country.
The tent set up by her family and friends aims to be a focus point where to direct all information that helps find Sandra.
Meanwhile, Hildebrando Velez, member of the search committee, said that the most effective way to express solidarity is to spread a picture of the missing activist in airports, border crossings and national newspapers, so that “Sandra can return to her city, to her activities and to her family and friends. The city of Cali needs it as an example of the values this country should promote”, said Velez.
Also, Real World Radio’s correspondent in Cali, Cesar Vargas, described the atmosphere on the minutes before starting the march.
Colombian environmentalist and human rights organizations among others insist on the need to pressure the Colombian government at international level to step up the search. Several international organizations have been sending letters to the Colombian authorities.
Economic resources are also necessary to continue and improve the local initiatives to find the activist. If you have information about the case, please contact 314 6032911 or 310 3090866.
