Friends of the Earth International is calling to join the cyberaction of the Civic Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) in support of Maria Santos, Coordinator of the Indigenous Council of Rio Blanco, Intibucá and Honduras and member of COPINH, who was recently attacked because of her resistance actions against the “Agua Zarca” project.
Real World Radio, in the framework of the International Day of Struggle against Dams and in Defense of Rivers, its Communities and Water that is celebrated on March 14, would like to share this campaign in solidarity with Maria Santos Dominguez, her family and the other activists in resistance and invite you to join this cyberaction by sending the petition to Honduran authorities to demand her safety and a transparent investigation about the attack.
The call:
Communities in the Rio Blanco area have been protesting a proposed hydroelectric dam on their lands since the project was first tabled. These environmental and human rights defenders have been subjected to persecution, detention, threats, kidnappings and killings. María Santos Domínguez, is the co-ordinator of the Organización del Consejo Indígena del Río Blanco y del Sector Norte de Intibucá (Indigenous Council of Río Blanco and the North of Intibucá). She and her family were brutally attacked last week because of their activism against the dam. Sign the petition below to insist that the Honduran government investigates the attack and works to protect human rights defenders.
