Workers of Uruguayan company of frozen vegetables Greenfrozen are occupying the plant since the first week of December last year. The Executive Branch has expressed its will to reactivate the production of this industrial centre in Bella Union, a city located 600 km from the capital city of the country. However the solutions are not appearing.
“The timing of the authorities is not the same as ours. They don´t provide any kind of solution, and if this continues we will have to deepen the measures”, told Real World Radio Richard Berreta, president of Greenfrozen Worker´s Union..
This week, delegates from the union came to Montevideo, capital city of the country, and met with Daniel Martinez, Minister of Industry and with National Labour Director, Julio Baráibar. Now, their next goal is to meet with President Tabaré Vazquez.
Several others unions from Bella Union suppport this measure, including the emblematic Union of Sugar Cane Workers from Artigas (UTAA). One of the leaders of this union, Juan Santana, is critical of the labour policies from the Frente Amplio party in office.
“We wanted a change for the workers, but we continue having the same needs that we had with the other parties”, he stated.
