The National Front of Popular Resistance of Honduras, which comprises a wide range of social movements and organizations from the country, demanded the Organization of American States (OAS) to not recognize Porfirio Lobo´s administration, who is accused of continuing the dictatorship installed in the country after the coup d´etat of June 28th, 2009.
The OAS created a commission made up by twelve countries in charge of considering the return of Honduras to the organization. Honduras had been denied access to the OAS unanimously on July 4th, 2009. Next week, the commission has to submit a report with details about the political and legal situation of the country since Lobo took office.
OAS Secretary General, Jose Miguel Insulza, will also submit a report this week, at the extraordinary meeting of the Central American Integration System in El Salvador.
The Honduran administration is very optimistic with regard to these reports, and expects to be accepted to the OAS unanimously.
But, the National Resistance Front said that Honduras suspension should not be lifted since Lobo´s administration is illegitimate and is maintaining a coup structure in the Supreme Court of Justice and the House of Representatives”.
The Resistance Front also stated that the OAS “must promote the destruction of the coup structures that are hindering the democratic struggle of the people” and should create “the necessary conditions for the return of (ousted president) Manuel Zelaya Rosales and the people who were expatriated after the coup d´etat.
