Descargar: MP3 (8 MB)

Hurricane Matthew is the first Category 5 Atlantic Hurricane since Felix in 2007. It has affected the Caribbean Sea passing through Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Cuba, the Bahamas and the Southeastern coast of the United States. The most severe damages were registered in Haiti.

On Tuesday, Hurricane Matthew hit that country with winds up to 230 km/h. More than 800 people died and many cities were devastated.

Real World Radio interviewed Aldrin Calixte, member of Friends of the Earth Haiti. The activist talked about the impacts of Hurricane Matthew in his country and warned about the urgency for political leaders around the world to act to efficiently combat climate change.

The most cited scientific studies about the climate crisis claim that one of its effects is the increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.
