The Peoples´ Tribunal on Transnational Corporations will take place in Manzini, Swaziland, from August 16-17, organized by the Southern Africa Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power. Real World Radio talked to the Campaign´s coordinator, Ilham Rawoot, to know more about the meeting next week, its rationale and how the work is moving forward.
Ilham is member of the Alternative Information & Development Centre, an organization based in Cape Town, South Africa. The Southern Africa Campaign forms part of the Global Campaign to Reclaim Peoples Sovereignty, Dismantle Corporate Power and Stop Impunity.
Ten communities from Southern Africa, who are experiencing first-hand the impacts of the big transnational corporations in their territories and livelihoods, are expected to present their cases at the Tribunal.
In the interview with Real World Radio, Ilham Rawoot made reference to these cases, the logistics necessary to make the Tribunal a reality, the importance of the presence of communities directly affected, the reasons why the activity is being conducted and the challenges ahead.
