Today, Sunday March 6 at 5:oo am, Gustavo Castro Soto, human rights defender that has been wounded during the assassination of Berta Caceres, has been blocked by the Honduran Police at the International Airport in Tegucigalpa, just before boarding the plane to go back to Mexico.
Therefore, Gustavo Castro, Coordinator of Otros Mundos AC / Friends of the Earth Mexico, is still in HONDURAS, and his life is under risk. He had to be protected by the Mexican Ambassador and Consul, while they were escorting him back to the Mexican Embassy. We still do not know clearly what is the status or the reason why he is being
kept by the Honduran Authorities and what would be the procedure to follow.
Once again, Gustavo Castro is a victim and as such, he should be treated and be taken care of his physical and psychological integrity. He has been wounded during the assassination of Berta Caceres on March 3.
We are requesting all the organizations and human rights defenders to stay alert on the situation since he has been a victim of an attempted murder in a context of widespread violence in the country.
FoE Mexico will give a press conference on Monday March 7th at 12.30H at CENTRO DE DERECHOS HUMANOS AGUSTÍN PRODH, SERAPIO RENDÓN 52B.
