A peasant since birth, the young Ecuadorian Fernando Andrade is one of the students of the Latin American Agroecological Institute (IALA) and was interviewed by Real World Radio.
IALA in Paraguay and the other regions where it is present has represented a process of consolidation of political-pedagogical principles of the Latin American Coordination of Countryside Organizations (CLOC-VC), said Fernando in an interview in Santiago, Chile.
The methodology includes three months of classroom time and two months of community time, that includes experiences both national and international with communities linked to continental organization.
We have to "learn and unlearn", said Fernando, for whom capacity-building on agroecology also implies a political framework that generates new knowledge many times "upstream" from the food production model known as "agribusiness".
"We focus on production, but also on the rescuing of knowledge and policy", he explained. "This allows us to strengthen social organizations and the community, as a set of intertwined beings".
IALA is "an organic space that allows to save natural resources and value native seeds that have not been genetically modified. These only benefit monoculture expansion", while agroecology implies diversity.
Interview by Sara Pont (Future Earth - RWR) at the International Seminar "Rural Education, Agroecology and Peoples of the Countryside" organized by the National Association of Rural and Indigenous Women of Chile.
