Interview with Brid Brennan: the agenda of TNI (Netherlands) at the UN COP 21 in París

“The Transnational Institute (TNI) is here primarily to be part of the strengthening of civil society and social movements’ response to the climate crisis”, said Brid Brennan to Real World Radio at the UN COP 21 on climate change.

The representative of TNI said that no good outcome is expected from the negotiations in terms of what the social movements are demanding in their fight for climate justice. Some of these demands include: drastic emission reductions by industrialized countries, finance from these countries for climate change adaptation and mitigation in the Global South, technology transfer from the North to developing countries, among others. But a strengthening of civil society is in fact expected, said Brennan.

The activist also told Real World Radio about the three main themes of TNI´s work in Paris: the relation between the military industry and climate change; the trade and investments system that feeds the climate and environmental crisis; and the role of transnational corporations at the climate talks as well as the need to dismantle their power.
