Interview with Asad Rehman, of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland, about the COP 21 talks

Environmental federation Friends of the Earth International (FoEI) issued on Monday from Paris, France, a press release where Jagoda Munic, FoEI´s Chair, said that the richest countries are not committed to adopt the necessary measures to prevent irreversible climate change and protect the people from the impacts of this crisis, despite what leaders say at the COP 21.

While world leaders, even from developed countries, stated that the poorest countries are the least responsible for climate change, so far, the emission reductions tabled by developed countries are not anywhere near their fair share, said Munic.

Yesterday, at the official opening of the COP 21 in Paris, 150 heads of state shared their opinions on climate change. Environmental activist Asad Rehman, experienced representative of Friends of the Earth England, Wales and Northern Ireland at the UN climate talks, made a global assessment for Real World Radio about Monday´s speeches; he highlighted the demands of developing countries around equity, finance for climate change adaptation and the Loss and Damage Mechanism. He also shared an overview of the current state of the negotiations.
