Descargar: MP3 (1.1 MB)

US agroecologist Eric Holt Gimenez, member of the organization Food First participated in a public conference in Montevideo on October 5 in the framework of the building of the National Agroecology Plan of Uruguay.

Holt-Gimenez highlighted the potential of agroecology to combat hunger at world level in the framework of climate change and denounced that this scourge is not a consequence of food scarcity, but on the contrary, of the overproduction of food at agribusiness scale.

In this way he advocated for the empowerment of social movements and organizations that promote agroecology as an element of sustainability in food production. And he highlighted that in this way it is necessary to rebuild the public political sphere.

The seminar took place in the framework of the discussion and development of a National Agroecology Plan by the Native Seeds Network, the Agroecology Network and the Latin American Scientific Society of Agroecology together with the Agroecology and Environmental Systems Group of the Agronomy School, University of the Republic.
