Time for Justice: Activities in Geneva launched in parallel to UN talks on transnational corporations and human rights

The Week of Mobilization parallel to the negotiations that are taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, by the Intergovernmental Working Group of the UN´s Human Rights Council was launched today, July 6th. The Working Group is in charge of defining the terms of a binding treaty on human rights and transnational corporations.
Called by the Global Campaign to Dismantle Corporate Power and End Impunity and the “Treaty Alliance”, made up by hundreds of social movements and organizations from all continents, the week of action aims at pushing for the adoption of this legal treaty.
The parallel activities were launched today at a tent installed by the activists at the United Nations Square, where the Broken Chair sculpture can be found, exactly outside the main entrance to the Palais des Nations, the UN headquarters where the official talks are taking place.
At the opening of the activities by the social movements and organizations, activist Brid Brennan, of the Transnational Institute (Netherlands) took the floor.
