Interview with Colombian peasant leader and Senator Alberto Castilla

In the framework of the 6th Congress of the Latin American Coordination of Countryside Organizations (CLOC-Via Campesina) Real World Radio interviewed Alberto Castilla, Colombian Senator for the Polo Alternativo Democrático Party and president of the National Agrarian Coordination of this country.

The peasant leader shared with us his view about the development of the Continental Congress.

During the interview, we could deepen on the situation of Colombian peasants. Castilla said that their situation is complicated, since the public policy is focused on strengthening big businesses and not peasant economy, and he set as an example the current Colombian Development Plan promoted by President Juan Manuel Santos.

The Senator also made reference to the need to recognize and incorporate peasant life to the agenda of the path towards peace in the country. In this way, he stated his concern over the persecution and attacks against social, peasant and indigenous protests.
