Friends of the Earth Latin America and the Caribbean (ATALC) expresses its total rejection of the Executive Order signed on Monday by US President, Barack Obama, declaring that the situation in Venezuela poses “a national emergency” and “unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States”.
In addition, we call on governments and peoples of the world to remain alert to this fresh US meddling in a sovereign State and we support the Bolivarian revolution and the administration of democratically elected President, Nicolas Maduro.
The sanctions against Venezuela and seven officials declared by the executive order supposedly in defense of human rights, only confirm Maduro´s claims about the US meddling and destabilization policy in Venezuela, in complicity with the national coup-plotter right wing.
The US is arrogantly taking the liberty and right, before the eyes of the world, of sanctioning another country, implementing a so-called “Venezuela Defense of Human Rights and Civil Society Act”, signed by Obama in December 2014.
We share the concern expressed by the Venezuelan government and the National Assembly, because history effectively tells us that this type of declaration by the US has been the precursor of military attacks against numerous countries around the world. In any case, it is an extremely serious attack and threat that should be rejected by the international community.
ATALC, a network of environmental organizations that fights for social and environmental justice, deplores this new attack and attempt to oust Nicolas Maduro´s administration, another one in the history of the Bolivarian revolution started by Hugo Chavez. We consider this as an attack on the peace and stability of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and of Latin America and the Caribbean as a region.
For this we call on Latin American peoples in defense of democratic and transformative processes in many of our countries to be alert, we demand the governments of the region to be vigilant to the respect of our sovereignties, and the rest of the world to express their rejection against this new imperialist attack.
Moreover, we once again state our support to Nicolas Maduro´s administration (who was elected by his people in a legal electoral process) and its defense of national sovereignty. And also, our solidarity with the Venezuelan people and their revolution against the permanent attacks of the long-established right wing at national and international level that is trying to stop a 16-year-old process in favor of the popular classes of the country.
THEY WILL NOT SUCCEED BECAUSE WE ARE ALL VENEZUELA AND THE REVOLUTION OF ITS PEOPLE!
