“The global movement for a campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and Palestinian rights was initiated by Palestinian civil society in 2005, and is coordinated by the Palestinian BDS National Committee (BNC), established in 2007. BDS is a strategy that allows people of conscience to play an effective role in the Palestinian struggle for justice”, according to the website http://www.bdsmovement.net.
One of the movement’s founders Omar Barghouthi, explained in Ramallah, Palestine, to the group of Friends of the Earth International activists that participated in a solidarity mission in the West Bank from October 10 to 13, that the BDS movement has three main demands: the end of the Israeli occupation in Palestine, the end of racial discrimination by the Jewish state and to guarantee the return of the Palestinian refugees to their country under the international law.
