The negotiations for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), due to start in Brussels on October 7th, were postponed as a result of the US government shutdown.

According to the European Commission’s website the agreement “is designed to drive growth and create jobs”, but Friends of the Earth Europe and other groups are claiming the deal would actually pose many threats to environmental, social and consumer standards and safeguards.

Real World Radio interviewed Natacha Cingotti, Lobby transparency and corporate power campaigner at Friends of the Earth Europe, to know more about the agreement and what the group is doing to denounce its impacts both in the European Union countries and in the rest of the world, as well as the secrecy surrounding the negotiations.
