Internationalism in practice: the struggle in the Americas as viewed from Africa

Environmental activist Kwami Dodzi Kpondzo, of Togo, member of the Executive Committee of Friends of the Earth International, highlighted the huge popular mobilization at the Meeting in Montevideo as part of the Continental Day for Democracy and against Neoliberalism, held in Montevideo, capital of Uruguay, on November 16-18.

Kwami was part of the delegation of Friends of the Earth groups present in Montevideo, with the particularity that he came all the way from Africa. In the following video interview conducted by the Social Movements Communications Convergence during the Meeting, the environmental activist said he felt inspired by the popular movements of the region and highlighted some contact points with the struggles in Africa, for instance against transnational corporations and in particular against oil exploitation in Togo.
